New CCM U+ CL! Is This The Year CCM Rises To The Top?
The team of buyers at Sports Connection Source For Sports recently attended a private preview of the new CCM skate line that will be introduced at retail in October 2010.
It’s no secret that when it comes to skates, the CCM brand has lost market share to the competition in the last 10 years due to a series of less than stellar skate releases. With the success of the Vapor family of skates, Bauer has climbed to the top of the food chain and hasn’t had to fend off any serious challenges from the rest of the pack.
Reebok Hockey is hoping to change the competive landscape with the launch of the new CCM U+CL skate.
The U+CL is in many ways a redsign of the U+Reload. The boot fit has been revamped in the following ways:
- increased boot depth in midfoot area
- tightened the heel to improve heel lock
- relaxed forefoot area for comfort
- added volume to toebox
- added grip liner to eliminate unnecessary motion
- added CCM Armour Tongue to prevent lace bite
- reduced volume in throat of boot to reduce lace bite
When you see the skate graphics, it’s no secret that CCM is trying to position it against the Bauer Vapor X60. Time will tell if CCM has hit a home run or if it’s another swing and a miss.
Staff that tried on the U+CL at the preview commented on the significantly improved fit.
